The Aberdeen Student Union (AUSA) has been forced to cancel its celebratory ceilidh after the event did not sell enough tickets.
In an announcement made on the 5th of February, the CEO of AUSA, Fiona Heinonen stated that it “wasn’t an easy call, but it is the right one to ensure we act responsibly and in the best interests of the Students’ Union and the students we represent.”
The celebration was supposed to take place on the 13th of February. They invited students, alumni, sabbatical officers, and anyone involved at the university. The night was lined up with welcome drinks, awards, and a throwback through the 25-year history of AUSA.
Tickets were available for £15. They will be fully refunded automatically through the same payment method that the payment was made on. AUSA added: “There is no action required from attendees at this time.”
In the statement, AUSA also stated: “While we’re disappointed not to be marking this milestone together in the way we had hoped, our commitment to supporting, empowering and representing students remains unchanged.”
AUSA is also approaching their 2026/27 sabbatical officer elections. Students have until the 27th of February to nominate themselves for President and Vice-President roles, having the opportunity to shape and influence the university.
