UOA achieves highest ever UK ranking in recent survey

Vice-president feels “delighted” about positive recent statistics

The University of Aberdeen was ranked 15th in the UK and 2nd in Scotland in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, a rise of four and two places respectively, and the highest it has ever placed in this particular survey.
Since The Times’ 2018 survey, this means that the University of Aberdeen has increased its national ranking by 25 places.

The ratings were taken from a group of over 130 institutions, where a number of different metrics were measured in order to rate each university’s individual strengths and weaknesses. Of all these metrics, UOA placed strongest in Student Experience, rated as 7th in the UK, followed by Entry Standards, where it achieved 8th place.
In terms of its taught subjects, UOAs Anatomy and Physiology course did best, at 2nd in the UK, followed by Anthropology at 4th, Education at 8th, English at 6th and French at 7th.

In addition to the top 5, a further eleven subjects were ranked within the top twenty in the UK.

The news came after the University of Aberdeen saw a similarly impressive rating in the Guardians University Rankings, where it achieved the same rating of 2nd in Scotland as well as an even higher rating of 12th in the UK, a rise of 39 places since 2019, and was rated no.1 for Medicine nationwide.

In a press release, Senior Vice Principal Professor Karl Leydecker said:
“We are delighted to see our universities continued commitment to academic excellence recognised again in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, just weeks after another strong performance in the Guardian University Rankings.

“It is extremely encouraging to see Aberdeen sitting in the top 15 in the UK and top two in Scotland in both these major university ranking tables – an achievement that is testimony to the hard work of our staff and student community.

“[the] announcement cements our position as a leading university dedicated to providing a first-class education and student experience, preparing future generations with the skills required to tackle society’s major challenges.”
