With Christmas looming and the dreaded Christmas shop as you scramble last minute to find a present for your aunt’s-neighbour’s-dog, we thought we’d provide a comprehensive guide to deals, both within Aberdeen and online, that may help your money go further
I find as I begin to worry about presents and Christmas parties, bargain hunting and savvy finds seem near impossible to get. I’ve tried to include a well-ranged list for a wide range, so there’s something for everyone!
First up and a personal favourite: MiXR App.
This app has been a saviour in recent years for me. Foundry, Siberia, Triplekirks, Murdos are a few to list with this app. Simply download and get access to many deals over the year. Be careful of sneaky terms and conditions such as weekdays only, or certain drinks only, but once you’ve found that out, you’re good to go!
Queens Links: Using valid Student Beans, UNiDays, or simply your student ID!
Queens Links Leisure Park has a wide range of discounts you may not have even known about. Both TGI Fridays and Pizza Hut offer 20% off food and drink from Sunday to Thursday.
Also, if you fancy a fun Christmas day or night out, Codona’s offers student discounts on all activities! Simply remember your student ID and let them know when you go to pay.
Prime Subscription
If you’re addicted to online shopping like me, this one is definitely for you. Register for Amazon Prime with your @abdn.ac.uk email and get Amazon Prime free for six months. Plus, even after your six months is up, you are still at a discounted student rate!
Jump in Aberdeen
Again, for those who are looking for something fun to do, Jump in by AirHop in Aberdeen offers a 20% discount to anyone with a valid student ID, by using the code STUDENT20 at the checkout.
They also do group jump sessions, if this is your idea of a bonding experience or a last day out before exams!
Union Square Deals
Union Square is often hard to navigate in terms of deals and with what is going on! Here’s a list of all student deals available in Union Square and what’s required to claim them. All are perfect for present shopping or a simple treat for yourself!
Shops:
- Boots has a 20% off with a Boots account and a valid student ID (You have to go in-store to get them to add your student ID onto the card – but once this is done you can use it online too!).
- The Perfume Shop has 15% off with a valid UNiDAYS account.
- Levis has 20% off with a valid UNiDAYS account.
- H&M has 20% off with a valid student ID.
- Apple UP TO 15% off with Student Beans (This works online and in-store – also when you buy a MacBook they often have the offer that adds in AirPods for you also).
Food:
- ASK Italian has 20% off with a valid UNiDAYS account, from Sunday to Thursday.
- Cosmos has 10% off with a valid student ID.
- Taco Bell has a Free Item when you order online (technically not in Union Square, but it’s so good I had to include it).
Student Beans and UNiDays
Without it being super obvious, a lot of these deals and discounts come from having a valid account either on Student Beans or UNiDays. This is also the same for a lot of online brands so I always attempt to have a look before I go in anywhere.
Christmas Markets
Without the markets being opened yet I can’t confirm the discounts – but in previous years, there is often some sort of a student discount (and a good one at that! That we students can enjoy).
