The shared count for the Aberdeen City and Shire Councils is being held at the P&J Live this morning. The count officially began today at 9 am.
Now candidates are gradually making their way to the venue.
Results are to be announced today for each constituency’s member of Scottish Parliament. Aberdeen City Council includes Aberdeen Deeside & North Kincardine, Aberdeen Central and Aberdeen Donside, and the Aberdeenshire constituencies include Aberdeenshire West, Aberdeenshire East and Banffshire & Buchan Coast.
Voters will also elect seven regional MSPs using the Additional Member System (AMS) of proportional representation. The regional list is made up of candidates selected by political parties and independent candidates. Aberdeen falls in the North East Scotland region.
This year’s election saw approximately 750 people involved in supporting the election in Aberdeen council – which included staff at 73 polling places and 169 stations, transportation of ballot boxes to the P&J Live on Thursday evening, and venue staff at the count.
Voter turnout for Scotland is yet to be declared, but polls indicate a low number. The eligible electorate for Aberdeen City Council is 178,851 – of which 40,702 were postal votes.
A YouGov (MRP model) prediction poll from 6th May has projected the following seats:
SNP: 62
Reform: 19
Labour: 17
Conservative: 7
Greens: 16
LibDems: 8
To win a majority, SNP will need to win 65 seats.

The first round of votes are in. Jack Middleton of the Scottish National Party has won in the Aberdeen Central constituency with 11,974 votes. Next in line is Jenny Laing of The Labour Party with 5,002 votes, James Wyllie of Reform UK with 3,936 votes Steward Whyte of The Conservative with 3,688 votes and Yi-Peu Laing of the Liberal Democrats with 2,563 votes.
The constituency saw a 47.17% voter turnout, with a total of 27,328 votes cast. Aberdeen Central remains a SNP stronghold.

The second round of votes are in. Steven Flynn of the Scottish Nationalist party has won in the Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine constituency with 11,788. Next in line was Liam Kerr (Conservative)10,544, Duncan Massey (Reform UK) 6,113, Mel Sullivan (LibDems) 2,880, Matthew Lee (Labour) 2,805 , and finally Iris Alexander Leask (independent) 431.
The constituency saw a 55.05% voter turnout with a total of 34,669 votes cast.
