This newspaper’s audio supplement Gettin’ Rowdy with The Gaudie was nominated for the Political Podcast Awards.
2026 was the first year that a student category was included, with three shows nominated.
Though not triumphing as award winners, your Gaudie podcasters Innes Paton and Fred Byrne can confirm they (we) had a fantastic evening.
We would like to congratulate our new friends at The Feminist Files who won the Best Student Podcast Award. Their podcast is recorded by a team of University of Cambridge students “dedicated to shedding light on feminist ideas, debates and policies.”
The awards ceremony was hosted at Sinfonia Smith Square at the very heart of Westminster last Wednesday evening.
We were in good company, with podcasts from the likes of BBC, The Telegraph, The Guardian, and The Rest is Politics also up for awards.
While the three-course dinner and free-flowing drink were not to be scoffed at, the highlight was the intriguing conversations with reporters and politicians.
The hospitable and friendly team from iNHouse Communications, the PR firm that hosted the awards, placed The Gaudie at what may have been ‘the conservative table’. We sat beside right-leaning journalists and a Tory MP with whom we had great discussions.
Anthony Scaramucci, former White House communications director under Donald Trump, and Gyles Brandreth, a conservative politician turned broadcaster, presented the awards.
Other winners included: Political Currency, who won Podcast of the Year; Simple Politics, winners of the People’s Choice Award; and The News Agents, who won Story of the Year.
The Gaudie’s podcast show was founded in 2020, and has since celebrated student voices and has been a place for discussions about university news.
In 2025, the show produced by Fred Byrne saw interviews with the newly elected rector, the student president, and a diverse array of contributors to our student newspaper.
This year, Gettin’ Rowdy with The Gaudie sees a new limited series The Road to Holyrood, which sees weekly interviews with Aberdeen candidates standing in May’s Scottish Parliament elections. Innes Paton’s mission in producing the podcast is to provide a platform for students to hear from politicians to choose who to vote for.
