A blood donation session will run at Aberdeen University’s Elphinstone Hall on Thursday 30th October 2025, from 10am-12:30pm and then again from 2pm-5pm.
The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) asks interested would-be donors to sign up in one of the following ways by 5pm on Wednesday (or by 7pm online):

How will my blood be used?
Blood is used for a range of treatments from planned operations to trauma treatment, with examples listed on scotblood.co.uk. According to NHS Scotland, donated blood in Scotland in 2020 was used for:
- 38% Cancer and blood diseases
- 24% All surgical procedures
- 15% Critically ill patients
- 2% Mothers, babies & young children
Am I eligible?
A spokesperson for SNBTS shared:
“People largely just need to be fit and well to give blood, although we will ask you a number of questions before you book in, including ‘Do you have any recent tattoos or piercings?’, ‘Have you been abroad in the last six months?’, ‘Are you under any medical investigations?’ and ‘Have you had any medical procedures?’.”
To check eligibility criteria, would-be donors can complete an online quiz.
But what if I am afraid to give blood?
A spokesperson for SNBTS addressed people who are hesitant to sign for blood donation:
“Honestly, don’t be afraid – it’s a very rare thing, the chance to help people while doing absolutely nothing – and not just help, actually saving or improving the lives of up to three people. You just lie back, relax and get chocolate afterwards 😊”
