The University Court approved these plans in April.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Unions and College Union (UCU) have claimed that the university adding a \u201cfourth level of hierarchical oversight will only make the institution even more sluggish and resistant to change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are the new \u201cExecutive Deans\u201d?\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Being in charge of the new faculties, the deans will be responsible for leading the \u201cdevelopment and delivery of the faculties\u2019 strategic and operational plans\u201d as well as conducting interdisciplinary collaboration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They will also occupy a position on the executive board, which contributes to the direction and strategy of the university.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In an interview with <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Gaudie<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Principal Pete Edwards said that the new position will \u201cstreamline the decision making.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He added that the new four faculty model will mean that decisions and responsibilities will be \u201cdelegated downwards.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">University Senate, the democratic body in charge of academia at the institution, voted to oppose the restructuring. Last month, the institution announced a \u00a310 million savings plan, projected to cut over 111 jobs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The university has now reintroduced voluntary redundancy and early retirement schemes, and will make a decision on compulsory redundancies in an Autumn review.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Promotions and hiring for \u201cfront-line staff\u201d has been paused since last year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Despite this, the university is projecting a \u00a34 million surplus for this academic year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Staff have claimed that there is a \u201chealth and wellbeing\u201d crisis at the university as many are now fearful for their jobs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The UCU have commented that \u201cRemoving front-line staff will have a paralysing effect on those who remain.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cStaff surveys, twice over, show that workloads are already at the breaking point.\u00a0 The managers also wish to double or triple class sizes damaging the future studies of Scottish students.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">They added that &#8220;it is<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not the time to add more managers to an institution which provides an important public service, especially at the cost of teaching staff.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A University of Aberdeen spokesperson said: \u201cThe Executive Deans will oversee the University\u2019s entire academic body under the new four faculty model, and we are starting our search internally to fill
