The university\u2019s Movember events and fundraising have begun. The uni\u2019s sports teams have started their fundraising pushes, combining team efforts and events with individual fundraising pushes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Movember raises money and awareness for men\u2019s physical and mental health conditions and concerns. They operate globally, focusing primarily on fundraising for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, and prostate cancer and testicular cancer research.<\/span><\/p>\n

We spoke to Movember ambassador Ross Nicol about the event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Being an ambassador to me isn\u2019t just about raising awareness towards Movember, but to be a face for the university,\u2019 he said. \u2018No matter who they are, absolutely anyone is welcome to attend and we would love to see new faces at the events\u2026 We at the university\u2019s Movember team would encourage everyone to get involved in any way they can.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

On Wednesday 19<\/span>th<\/span> November at 18:30 in the MacRobert Lecture Theatre, SAMH (Scottish Action for Mental Health) will be presenting as part of their role as delivery partners for Movember UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

For game week 6, Men\u2019s Hockey\u2019s team sheets include statistics relevant to Movember\u2019s causes. This is part of a donation push within the society. As of writing they have raised \u00a3622 in four days. They have also set a series of Movember milestones, these being: leg waxing, a drip tray pint, spin the wheel eyebrow slits, a president and social secretary half marathon, a ghost pepper for the vice president and social secretary, a club pint chop, and a spin the wheel buzz cut.<\/span><\/p>\n

The tennis society is holding \u2018Move for Movember\u2019, with the goal of hitting 1,000km as a society. They are also doing a society-wide tournament for Movember, named the AUTC David Cup.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kickboxing leads the amount raised at the time of writing, with Rugby, Law Football and Men\u2019s Hockey just behind.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the 5<\/span>th<\/span> of November students organised a kilt walk to watch the fireworks in aid of the cause.<\/span><\/p>\n

UOA Futsal will be growing moustaches and setting a running distance goal to raise money for the Movember Foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aberdeen University Weightlifting society is partnering with Movember for the causes of men\u2019s mental health and cancer research. They have a Movember team who are growing out their facial hair for the month and are looking for further participants.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scottish Student Football are encouraging Scottish student athletes to get involved more widely in Movember and its fundraising pushes.<\/span><\/p>\n

AUSA are holding a \u2018primary school sports day\u2019 in aid of the event on November 14th. In addition to this, on the 19<\/span>th<\/span> November they are encouraging people to wear their kits inside out. This is a part of More Mo\u2019s More, More Impact, a movement that is attempting to unite universities nationwide to increase visibility of Movember.<\/span><\/p>\n

The University\u2019s Medic\u2019s rugby team is looking to match or raise the over \u00a31,000 they raised last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

AU swim and polo are also participating, growing moustaches in their push to raise money for the cause.<\/span><\/p>\n
