According to NHS Scotland, donated blood in Scotland in 2020 was used for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>38% Cancer and blood diseases<\/li>\n<li>24% All surgical procedures<\/li>\n<li>15% Critically ill patients<\/li>\n<li>2% Mothers, babies &amp; young children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Am I eligible?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for SNBTS shared:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople largely just need to be fit and well to give blood, although we will ask you a number of questions before you book in, including \u2018Do you have any recent tattoos or piercings?\u2019, \u2018Have you been abroad in the last six months?\u2019, \u2018Are you under any medical investigations?\u2019 and \u2018Have you had any medical procedures?\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To check eligibility criteria, would-be donors can complete an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotblood.co.uk\/giving-blood\/can-i-give-blood\/\">online quiz<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>But what if I am afraid to give blood?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for SNBTS addressed people who are hesitant to sign for blood donation:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, don\u2019t be afraid \u2013 it\u2019s a very rare thing, the chance to help people while doing absolutely nothing &#8211; and not just help, actually saving or improving the lives of up to three people.
