We’re pleased that a detailed process was carried out through this review and that this included a range of student input.

“We’re encouraged that the importance of meaningful student representation is reflected in the recommendations, and we will continue to work hard moving forward to ensure that this is the case.”

Staff union UCU Aberdeen commented:

“We welcome the overdue publishing of the executive summary and recommendation from the Gordon Report. We hope that this serves its purpose and demonstrates that lessons were learned from the debacle of Modern Languages threats. In a time where the university is once again dealing with financial pressures that threaten staff jobs and course provision, we’re calling on University management to demonstrate that they have indeed learned from their past mistakes, and work with staff, not against us, to ensure future of The University of Aberdeen..“

A University of Aberdeen spokesperson said:

“The Review was commissioned by the University to help us identify areas for improvement and meet best practice. We fully accept that there were some missteps during the early stage of the change management process in late 2023 and we took swift action to address this.
