During a company-wide event, she stood up and exposed the blatant hypocrisy of corporate silence, daring to ask why Palestinian lives were excluded from the company’s so-called commitment to human rights. The response? Termination. An immediate and calculated attempt to snuff out dissent.

This incident, far from an anomaly, is a glaring symptom of a much larger issue—the suppression of Palestinian advocacy under the guise of “professionalism” and “company policy.” The firing of Abu Saad has ignited a firestorm of outrage, once again exposing the disturbing reality of who is allowed to speak on oppression and who is punished for daring to challenge the status quo.

On Monday, employees gathered for a widely publicized town hall event featuring the company’s CEO, a man who has often boasted about the firm’s “inclusive” and “justice-driven” policies. Employees were encouraged to ask questions, to engage in meaningful discourse, to challenge corporate perspectives. But as Abu Saad quickly learned, that invitation came with an asterisk: You are free to challenge injustice—just not the injustice we refuse to acknowledge.

Seizing the moment, she stood up and, in a clear, unwavering voice, asked:

“As a company that claims to champion human rights and social justice, why have we remained silent while thousands of Palestinians are killed, displaced, and stripped of their fundamental freedoms? Are Palestinian lives not worthy of the same advocacy we extend to other crises?”

Her words cut through the room like a blade. A few gasps. Some awkward shifting in seats. And then, before she could even finish, security was on her. She was physically removed from the room as if she were some kind of threat, her voice treated as a contagion that had to be swiftly eliminated. By the end of the day, she was fired—her termination letter citing “disruptive behavior” and “violation of company protocols.”

In a sterile, robotic statement, the company justified its decision:

“We support open dialogue in appropriate forums. However, disruptions to scheduled events undermine constructive conversations. Our policies are in place to ensure a professional and respectful work environment.”

Translation? We only support dialogue when it aligns with our interests. The sheer audacity of this statement is staggering. This is a company that has issued bold statements in support of Ukraine, LGBTQ+ rights, and Black Lives Matter. This is a company that has built an entire brand on social responsibility. And yet, when it comes to Palestine, suddenly there are “appropriate forums” that must be observed? Suddenly, a plea for justice is “disruptive”?

This hypocrisy is nothing new. Time and again, corporations have made it clear that their so-called commitment to justice is conditional, that Palestinian voices are to be silenced, ignored, and erased. Employees who have spoken up about Palestine have faced demotions, suspensions, and outright terminations. Meanwhile, those who champion other causes are rewarded, celebrated, and given platforms to speak.

Abu Saad’s firing is just one more example of the immense fear surrounding pro-Palestinian advocacy in the workplace. Employees across industries—tech, media, academia—whisper in fear, knowing that a single word of support for Palestine could cost them their careers.

A former colleague, speaking anonymously for fear of retaliation, expressed the growing anxiety within the company:

“This company has encouraged us to speak up for social justice, but the moment it’s about Palestine, there’s silence or outright punishment. It’s terrifying. You can lose everything for merely calling for human rights.”

This fear is not unfounded. The chilling reality is that for many, supporting Palestine—no matter how peacefully, no matter how factually—is met with immediate consequences. Employees are labeled “controversial,” “divisive,” or worst of all, “anti-Semitic,” a term weaponized to silence even the most basic discussions of Palestinian suffering. And yet, silence is not an option when people are being massacred, when entire families are being wiped off the map, when a genocide is unfolding before our eyes.

The corporate world has long played a key role in the continued oppression of Palestinians. Companies profit from weapons deals, invest in industries fueling the occupation, and remain eerily silent as entire Palestinian neighborhoods are reduced to rubble. The double standard is glaring. These same corporations that rush to condemn human rights abuses in other parts of the world suddenly lose their voices when it comes to Israel’s relentless assault on Gaza and the West Bank.

And what exactly are Palestinians enduring? Over 75 years of dispossession. An apartheid system documented by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and even the United Nations. Massacres, displacement, and a military occupation that dictates every aspect of their existence. Just in the past year, thousands have been killed, homes have been leveled, and an entire population has been pushed further into the abyss of statelessness.

But none of this, apparently, warrants a moment of corporate concern.

Since news of Abu Saad’s firing broke, the backlash has been immediate and fierce. Social media erupted, with activists, journalists, and human rights organizations calling for her reinstatement and condemning the company’s blatant censorship.

Renowned Palestinian writer and activist Mohammed El-Kurd tweeted:

“This is what happens when you challenge power. Ibtihad Abu Saad dared to speak truth in a world that punishes those who do. We stand with her.”

Online petitions demanding justice have amassed thousands of signatures. Employees within the company have begun organizing in solidarity. Protests are being planned. This is no longer just about one woman’s job—this is about the right to speak, the right to demand justice, the right to be heard without fear.

Despite losing her job, Abu Saad has refused to back down. In a defiant statement, she made it clear that no termination letter will silence her:

“If speaking up for human rights is a fireable offense, then we have much bigger problems than my job. I will not be silent, and I urge others to keep speaking out. Our voices are our greatest weapon against oppression.”

Her words are a rallying cry. If corporations think they can erase Palestine by silencing one voice, they are gravely mistaken. Because for every Abu Saad they try to suppress, a thousand more will rise in her place.

Abu Saad’s firing is not just about her. It is about every Palestinian who has been told their suffering is too inconvenient to discuss. It is about every worker who has been threatened into silence. It is about the brutal reality that, in our world today, some injustices are deemed worthy of outrage while others are erased.

But the tide is turning. People are speaking up. They are refusing to be intimidated. They are demanding that Palestine be seen, be heard, be acknowledged.

Corporations may think they can silence the truth. But the truth has never needed their permission to be spoken.

In yet another shameful display of corporate cowardice, Ibtihad Abu Saad, a respected employee at one of the world’s leading tech firms, has been fired for doing what too many are too afraid to do: speaking the truth about Palestine.
