Our independent student newspaper has launched a funding appeal in an attempt to raise money for prints of upcoming editions.
The Gaudie is among Scotland’s oldest student newspapers with more than 1,600 bimonthly editions since 1934, providing a platform for a diverse range of students voices on various issues and topics.
The newspaper has run into financial difficulties amid rising operating costs and funding cuts.
Editors-in-Chief Oliver Kennedy and Nour Elshenawy have launched an urgent fundraiser in a bid to ensure funding in order to publish their next three editions.
The Gaudie was awarded Best Design (Newspaper) and Best Use of Digital Media at The Herald Student Press Awards in May 2025, and was named as Scotland’s Best Student Newspaper by the Student Publication Association in 2024.
The Gaudie’s co-Editor-in-Chief Oliver Kennedy said: “We launched this fundraiser in an attempt to ensure the next edition of our student newspaper can go to print. Diminishing grant funding and increasing operational costs have been difficult to navigate as an independent student newspaper. Any help is greatly appreciated.”
A previous fundraiser in 2023 raised more than five thousand pounds, ensuring the paper could print for the next two years.
