Hi there! If you’ve ever considered dipping your toes into journalism but don’t know where to start, then you’ve come to the right place. Starting with something big like a Features article can be scary if you’ve never done it before, so writing an Opine might be the way to go for you.

As the famous saying goes, opinions are like assholes: we all have them! We all have opinions about different clubs, foods, people, courses, political ideas, and public figures. And lots of us at university like talking about our opinions… a lot. So if writing an Aberdream doesn’t quite scratch the itch to share your opinion, why not write an article?

If you have 500 to 800 words about one of your opinions, pop it in a Word document with a title and subtitle and email it to us at opine@thegaudie.com to be published. Unfortunately, we are not in physical print (yet) with the pandemic restrictions, but it’s still a fantastic opportunity to get your name on published articles in the oldest student newspaper in Scotland! It looks great on a CV to have been involved with the paper and have articles published, especially if you’re considering a career in journalism (We’re looking at you, English and Politics students!)

If you don’t know where to get started, or what sort of opinions we want, please email us any ideas you have, or see what inspires you from this prompt list:

  • Is the university experience worth it for Erasmus students?

  • Crystal healing – fad or fab?

  • Should schools prioritise a theoretical or practical education?

  • Is Jacob Rees-Mogg the worst politician?

  • Are there enough resources online for students?

  • Is Elon Musk actually attractive or is he just rich?

As so can see, your article can be about anything! They can be relevant to the university news or political news, or just a broader opinion you want to share. As long as your article clearly shows your opinion, (and isn’t just hate speech), then it can be an opine piece!

We look forward to reading your many, many, many opinions soon!
