Ukraine solidarity demonstration scheduled for Saturday 5pm

Aberdeen's city centre will see a demonstration take place this afternoon, following similar events worldwide.

An event, titled "We Stand with Ukraine (Gathering)" which has over half a thousand interested or committed attendees on Facebook, will take place at Castlegate in central Aberdeen.

The event, scheduled to start at 5pm, is being organised by The Association of Lithuanians in North East Scotland, who have said "our goal of this gathering is peaceful.

"We want to show that we care and we do not justify any military action against Ukraine or any other country."

The organisers have also asked attendees to bring a candle or a Ukrainian flag to commemorate "all lost lives".

Similar events have taken place across the UK and the world in recent days, including Russia, as people protest the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian military forces.

The University has also pledged to support those affected by the conflict, though it seems students are directed to already existing support services.
