Songs that turn 10 in 2019

by Catherine McQuarrie & Lara Frew

The 2009 UK top 10 has undoubtedly provided us with one of the most sacred things of our formative years: the soundtrack to our beloved Wednesday night Skite on the upstairs dance floor of Atik. Let’s go back to the days where chinos were the height of fashion and before TOWIE was polluting our screens. Here’s a rundown of the songs that are turning 10 in 2019:

10. Use Somebody – Kings of Leon. The karaoke classic loved by dads all over the country;

9. The Fear – Lily Allen. The lyrics in this song have a deeper meaning – are we really all just interested in fame and money?

2009 also seemed to be the year to debut a number of artists who became “two hit wonders”. Namely:

8. Bad Boys – (X factor winner) Alexandra Burke ft. Flo Rida, and

7. Tinchy Stryder, who ironically did not even reach the top 5;

6. In For The Kill – La Roux;

5. Fight for This Love – Cheryl Cole. A throwback to the halcyon days where Cheryl was the nation’s sweetheart;

4. Boom Boom Pow – The Black Eyed Peas. This song features by far the coolest dis in this top 10: “I’m so 3008, you’re so 2000 and late”;

3. Just Dance – Lady Gaga/Colby O’Donis. This smash hit went on to title the popular Wii game released the same year;

2. Poker Face – Lady Gaga. She goes all in with this ace tune, closely missing out the top spot.

And finally the moment we’ve all been waiting for:

Number 1. I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas. This unforgettable feel good party anthem left every school disco on a high!

We hope you have enjoyed reflecting on these timeless bops. We will forever yearn for a chart again this good, but in the meantime, we can cherish the memories of a simpler time.
