Lil Yachty’s new album ‘Nuthin’ 2 Prove’ instantly engrossed his diehard fans, but not really anyone else. With just seven months between his last album and this one, the mass public was not anticipating any new music from Lil Yachty. The lack of hype surrounding the album, paired with its unnecessary release, led to many dull tracks with a few that shine but remain hidden because of how tedious the project is.
This is Lil Yachty’s second studio album of 2018, and is a follow up to ‘Lil Boat 2’, which was released this past March. It features many exciting collaborations with artists such as Playboi Carti, Cardi B, Offset, Kevin Gates and Juice WRLD, among others.
2018 has been an extremely busy yet productive year for Lil Yachty, who released a birthday mix called ‘Birthday Mix 3’ this past August. He is also currently in the process of developing a music project with Migos’ Takeoff. Lil Yachty is creating more content than he himself can keep up with, and this may be a sign that his concepts and productions are not entirely or positively refined.
Regardless of the amazing lineup of guest artists on the album, much of the 15-track album leaves a lot be desired. If you enjoy rap and hip-hop, one song that may not be of disappointment is ‘Who Want The Smoke’ (feat. Cardi B, Offset). The appearances of Cardi B and Offset on the track are the highlights, making the song the only full three minutes that are thoroughly enjoyable on the album.
Releasing multiple albums in one year is a big feat to accomplish. However, Lil Yachty pretty much missed the mark with this album. The album does not showcase his best musical abilities and many of the songs are a poor representation of his talents. From creating his own clothing line to signing a movie deal, Yachty has remained enterprising and dynamic, yet sadly this energy is not reflected in ‘Nuthin’ 2 Prove’.
