You have definitely heard of the social unrest in Chile and Venezuela; and if you are really into international politics, you’ve probably heard of what’s going on in Haiti. However, there are fewer chances you are aware of the ongoing protests in Colombia, Ecuador or even Chicago. That’s probably not your fault as even protest is portrayed unevenly by media. Here’s a quick guide to the most recent protests in the Americas and Catalonia and an invitation to understand the parallels and connexions between these events, like similar austerity policies and systemic failures, as well as comparable unconstitutional use of force by governments.
