Grab your rollerblades and head down to the Belmont, it is time to go back to Barbieland!
The charity 'Save the Belmont', which has been running an extraordinarily successful campaign to save the much-beloved community cinema, is going to be screening Barbie to celebrate International Women's Day. International Women's Day is a globally celebrated day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of Women. The day also aims to bolster calls for the acceleration of female equality and there is no better way to demonstrate this than screening one of the most snubbed films of recent Oscar season candidates.
This year's theme for International Women’s Day is 'inspire inclusion' which aims at forging a more inclusive world for women, where women are inspired to be included - which allows for a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.
Jacob Campbell and Dallas King, the two trustees of the 'Save the Belmont' charity were excited to announce the event.
Jacob Campbell told The Gaudie:
'A great way for the Belmont community to celebrate International Women's Day is with a screening of the highest-grossing film from a female director. This free screening will be particularly special, with donations going toward Rape Crisis Grampian - a fantastic local charity that supports women in need during the most traumatic time of their lives. This experience is indicative of the community-based, inclusive, and safe cinema that our team hopes to create with the re-opening of the Belmont.
Co-Trustee Dallas King told The Gaudie:
'Greta Gerwig smashed the glass ceiling of what is achievable for women in film. So come on Barbie, let's go party!'
The screening will take place at Cowdray Hall on Saturday the 9th of March at 2 PM. The event will be free to all, with donations available to support a fantastic cause.
